A number of my former students at Mt. Carmel High School in Polillo, Quezon, have taken the lead in raising funds for the repair of the Bell Tower of St. Joseph Church, which was built by the Carmelite Fathers more than 60 years ago.
Below are some details for the project.
Project Title: Construction of the Bell Tower of St. Joseph Church in Polillo, Quezon
Projected Amount of Construction: $30,000 or 1.3 million pesos
Projected schedule of completion of construction: September 2014
Project Rationale: St. Joseph Church was built more than six decades ago, and has suffered exposure to heat, typhoons, and seawater splashes during that time. Noticeable cracks have become a concern for parish leaders and parishioners. In addition, they are concerned of the unusual vibration on the bell tower every time the bell was hit. More importantly, the tower could collapse and hurt people.
Given the age of the structure and its existing problems, LD Llacuna Engineering and Supply recommended solutions to repair said tower, which would also conform with current building codes.
Fund campaign to date: 280,630 pesos or $6,377.95 in pledges and paid donations have been raised in the Philippines. Of t his amount, the Coordinating Committee has received in cash 215,745 pesos. In addition, Metro Infanta Foundation has received in pledges at least $5,000, of which $3,088 has been received in cash, and which we will wire ASAP. This includes $568 from Adora Hernandez Luck and $20 from Franco Avellaneda. So, if you have made a pledge and have not made any payment, please do so NOW! Lilibeth Encina informed me that construction will begin in May. It is, Therefore, necessary for them to receive as much funds as possible.
If you are in the U.S. please consider making a gift of $114 or 5,000 pesos. If you circumstances allows you, a gift of $568 will mean at least 25,000. That's a big amount for this project. Of course, those who need a tax deduction can make it out to Metro Infanta Foundation, 7350 Braun Way, Arvada, CO 80005. Tax ID No. 84-1353940.
Of course, those who wish to send their donation directly to the Philippines, you may do so, but keep in mind that you cannot take your donation as a tax deduction. Please check with your tax lawyer or accountant regarding tax deductions.
