Paaralang Gabaldon: A tribute

By Rudy Arizala

As Infantahins well know, the Gabaldon type of school house in Infanta, Quezon was destroyed by a strong typhoon in the 1970's. Since then all what remained were few standing cement posts and ruins of stone stair-case of said school. For many years the school children of Infanta suffered from lack of class rooms and had to attend classes in dilapidated open-air rooms made of discarded rusting galvanized iron roofings and walls.

The Metro Infanta Foundation, Inc., a non-profit charitable organization based in Arvada, Colorado, U.S.A., under the chairmanship of Ms. Mila Glodava, launched a fund-raising campaign for the reconstruction of the destroyed Gabaldon School Building. Because of the "Bayanihan Spirit of Infantahins at home and abroad and with the help of Fil-American friends, the MIF was able to reconstruct said school building at the cost of around US $200,000.00. The PTA (Parents Teachers Association) of Infanta, Quezon, took care of the landscaping around the new Gabaldon School House. Meanwhile, the Local Government Unit of Infanta will provide the classroom furniture.

Instead of waiting for, or relying, on the Philippine Government to act on their long-standing request to reconstruct the school house in Infanta, Quezon, the people of Infanta thru the MIF decided to resort to their "Spirit of Bayanihan".

Said Gabaldon School House is scheduled to be inaugurated on 23 July 2011.

As a humble tribute to those who one way or another helped in the reconstruction of the Gabaldon School house in Infanta, Quezon, may I share with you the following lines in Tagalog:

PAARALANG GABALDON
Ni Rudy A. Arizala
Ika 23 Ng Hulyo 2011

Paaralang Gabaldon
Ay muling naibangon
Ang mga kabataan
Rito sa ating bayan
At sa mga Barangay
Labis ang pagpupugay
At di na magtitiis
Na walang silid-aralan.

Ganap ang kagalakan
Adhikang magkaroon
Bagong paaralan
Ay natupad; sapagka’t
Lahat ng Infantahin
Dito sa ating bayan,
O banyagang lupain
Nagsipag-bayanihan!
Wakas

The Gabaldon classrooms, each will hold up to 50 students, or up to 600 students in the entire building. To date, the school has about 2,500 students and 67 teachers. Dr. Crisostomo, the school principal, and those in administration are planning to give to the upper classes-- from 4th to 6th grade the use of the newly reconstructed Gabaldon school building. Surely, the additional 12 classrooms will help alleviate some crowding problems in the classrooms now being used. Some pupils hold classes in dilapidated open-air classrooms.

The New Gabaldon type of School House in Infanta, Quezon being readied for its inauguration.

P.S. To Cousin "doc" Dady Recio: Thanks for the pictures you sent me. One of them is shown above. Re my poem, If you will read the first letter of every lines on the left-hand side downward of my poem, you will be surprised. . .they convey also the title of the poem. RAA
